This track features Michael Harvey on Guitar and David Brogan on Trombone. I used a Casio AT-3 for the drums. The bass is a Fender Jazz Bass. I used Apple Logic as my DAW.
I called this one Heisenborg because I was thinking of a philosophical cyborg who fully embraces the uncertainty principle. I actually wrote out some chords to go by for this one. The beat drops in halfway through. I really like when I’m “reaching” on the bass line. I used the arpeggiator in Logic to make the soft synth sound.
This track was recorded with my beloved Lakland Skyline 5 string bass. This is all me. The name came from a thumbnail image I used on SoundCloud.
I was told by my music guru that he uses this to solo on with his students. That really touched my heart. This track is all me. I recorded the guitar, bass, and sequenced the drums. I even played the cheesy MIDI flute. There is heart and soul in this. The name comes from when my father took me to a water treatment plant as a 6 year old for a science project on The Water Cycle. It is sad because I was his caregiver up until he died. Anyway, I love this track and hope you do too.
This might be my most fun track. And by fun I mean funky. And by funky I mean disco slap bass city. I initially recorded it at 4 AM hence the name. Michael Harvey edited my ‘jam’ and made this track really shine. I played synth and bass but Michael really made the magic happen imo.
This one is for an old flame. She will remain anonymous. It has more parts than some of my other tracks. I like the organ sound on it. I dig the smoothness of it.
This is (at least at the time of me writhing this) the only track I’ve made with Ableton Live. I used a Zoom bass processor for the envelope sound. I played guitar on this. It is very simple.
Project Bluebird is Chad Page on Guitar. This track opens with my modular synth in its early form. The later part of the track was licensed to be used in a podcast intro. I really dig this one. Chad is the man. Follow Project Bluebird.
This one is a Spanish Phrygian vibe. It has had the most plays and got onto one of the Spotify playlists. Again Chad on guitar. The drums where slowed way down from the original canned sample on Logic.
Ok this is Zach Aravich on Oud. He plays in the W&M Middle Eastern Ensemble. I love the sound of it coming through a Roland Jazz Chorus amp. Also Michael Harvey played finger drums as well as bongos and tambourine. The name came to me out of nowhere. I think because it is many moons between when I get to record music this dope.
This is the track that started it all. Well the track that re-started it all. Well, this is the first track I put out on DistroKid. David Brogan on trumpet, fretless bass, and pads by me. The tabla came from a guy in Pakistan who just added tabla loops to what I was doing. Funny story at the time, I thought it was live Tabla. This transaction took place on Fiver. The album cover is the first photo I took in India after I left the initial resort location.
I love this track. I used a Make Noise Strega (Alchemical Delay) for the noise. I used Pads from Logic my DAW. This track is all me but Michael Harvey did do some post production on it. You can hear what he did toward the end of the track. I used a Fender Professional Fretless Jazz Bass for this one. I really like the 2D feel and the depth as well.
This track is total nonsense. You can hear the Moog Taurus 3 throughout. I let go of any tonal center concept and just made sounds. The drums were produced with an Arturia Drum Brute Impact that I just got back from my friend today actually. The name Spectral Interflex is dear to me but I’m not going to say why here.
Ooooo this one is special to me. I recorded the opening part with a Arturia Keystep sequencer. Later I would record Michael playing a much better synth solo but I used this one on the album because it is me. The bass has a Stereo Traveller sound found in Logic.
I came up with this music for my Mom when she had breast cancer. Michael Harvey played guitar, and keyboard. He probably sequenced the drums as well. But I wrote it (he helped somewhat with the composition too) and played bass on it.
This one has me on distorted bass. Michael sequenced the drums and played the synth solo at my request. I really am in debt to him. I called VA Swamp Music because I feel sometimes that I live in a swamp. Maybe I do, maybe I don’t but please enjoy this banger.
This one has a long period of silence on the end. You can interpret that however you want. I’m slapping the bass and Michael Harvey is ripping a sweet guitar solo over this one. I programed the drums with the Drum Brute Impact.
This track is historic. It is the first track I recorded that I liked of my own material. I lit candles late at night and was in the mood. So this one has Jeremy Nardozzi on SPDX drums. Micah Foxx plays the guitar. All the dubbing is Michael Harvey. Its really quite brilliant don’t you think? It is probably close to 20 years old now.
This features Chad as well as David Brogan on Trumpet. We had a lot of fun with this one and just went for it. I think we recorded guitar and bass first then trumpet because I only have two inputs on my interface.
I just want to add here that I took the photo that is this album cover. Chad on guitar. David Brogan on trumpet. Its all over the place but has a tonal center. I live in Gloucester, VA hence the “G-Town Funk” like Uptown Funk but better lol
This one is similar to the last but better. Apple Music asked me in an interview which one of my tracks encapsulated my sound the best and I said this one. Again this is Micheal Harvey on percussion and Zach Aravich on Oud.
This is David Brogan again on trumpet and trombone I think too. The tabla came from Fiverr. I live in a small community called Naxera. I tried to “play with authority” as a friend told me too once. Thank you for reading all these notes.
