Bio

Matt Crim's full legal name is Matthew Alexander Crim. He was born in George Washington University Hospital in Washington DC on September 17th 1981. He grew up with a love of drawing, comic strips, and adventure. His family moved from their home in Alexandria Virginia to Gloucester Virginia when he was age 10 years. He missed the diversity of the city but fell in love with nature in the country. At age 13 a friend asked if he wanted to be in a band. Matt said yes and bought his first bass guitar and bass amplifier with a little money he had saved up. This was a Lotus precision style 4 string with a tobacco sunburst finish and a Crate 100 watt combo bass amp with a 15" speaker. In 10th grade he joined the jazz band at Gloucester High School. During this time, Matt, carried a pocket-size translation of the Tao Te Ching in his pocket for 2 years. Matt graduated from GHS in the year 2000 with an advanced diploma after completing his senior project which was producing as well as performing a show at GHS with his high school band Pangaea. He studied jazz history, theory, double bass and electric bass at CNU from the fall of 2000 until the spring of 2002. In the spring of 2002 he suffered a psychological breakdown. In the fall of 2002 he switched his major to philosophy and in the spring semester of 2003 he left the US and participated in a semester long study abroad program in Madurai, India. In the summer of 2003 he returned to the states and resumed study in philosophy at CNU. In the winter of 2005 he graduated from CNU after completing his thesis, "Strategies of Poststructuralism in Contemporary Visual Art." Soon after graduating college, Matt became a founding member of a local reggae band called Zion's House Band. Eventually this would morph into Destination Zion. Micah and Matt would split off to create Micah Foxx and the Hounds and, in 2017, Crimson Fox. Matt currently performs with several groups. Crimson Fox joins forces with singer/songwriter Mark Rogers regularly. Matt currently performs with country/Americana artist Troy Breslow and also with The Courthouse Community Orchestra as well as others in the southeastern Virginia area.
